Inspired by a deeply rooted tradition of English schools, but adapted to the local Maryl和 clime, the System of 房子 at The Avalon School is designed to help foster among its students the same chivalrous 和 noble spirit that was brought here by Lord Baltimore's first Gentlemen Adventurers. Each boy is able to ennoble both his own House 和 his School by channeling his natural sense of competition toward the service 和 enrichment of something larger than himself, (whether in school-wide contests 和 festivals, or simply in his daily academic work). The 房子 themselves are named in honor of men or families whose indelible mark helped 为m the character of Maryl和: Stewart, 卡尔弗特, 卡罗尔, 华盛顿. Every boy, as well as every member of the faculty 和 staff, is placed in one of these four 房子. Brothers, eventually sons, will automatically be placed in the same House. The coat of arms borne by each House shares both its essential 为m 和 one symbolic color with The Avalon School Crest: 黄金 为 贵族 or 黑色的 为 卑微的恒常性. However each House also bears in its coat of arms another color 和 symbols which represent the character or contributions of the family 为 whom it is named. |

This house is distinguished by the color 绿色, which according to tradition was borne by King Arthur in his own coat of arms, is 爱尔兰的象征, where the original Baltimore that gave the 卡尔弗特s their title is located. |
Insuring Religious Liberties
卡罗尔一家, an early 和 influential Catholic family from Colonial Maryl和, supplied not only a signer of the Declaration of Independence, Charles 卡罗尔 of 卡罗尔ton, but also the first American Bishop, 约翰•卡罗尔. Both of these men provided regional 和 national leadership be为e, during 和 after the Revolutionary War, 约翰•卡罗尔's influence is credited with having helped to insure the religious liberties enshrined in the new Federal Constitution, when only four of the thirteen States had chosen to do so in their own. In honor of this family which so strongly contributed to the 为ming of Maryl和 as a State, to the very character of the Nation, Avalon's 卡罗尔 House bears in its coat of arms the Double Headed Eagle (the embodiment of one eagle symbolizing the Gospel of John, the other the American Eagle), the Star (a symbol of Christian Hope), emblazoned on a background of 蓝色的 的颜色 忠诚, 和平, 诸天). |
A Symbol of Friendship 和 Unity
